Walt Joseph

Museum Co-Founder

Walt Joseph is a co-founder of the Savannah River Site Museum and a founding member of the SRS Heritage Foundation, an organization dedicated to preserving and sharing the history and impact of the Savannah River Site. After earning both his undergraduate and graduate degrees from Pennsylvania State University, Mr. Joseph relocated to the Aiken area in 1954 to begin his career at the Savannah River Plant.  

Over the course of a distinguished 39-year career, he held a variety of roles spanning engineering, research, and site operations, contributing to the Site’s mission during the Cold War and beyond. His early work included pioneering efforts in radiation effects on structural materials, followed by leadership roles that emphasized both technical innovation and workforce operations.  

Following his retirement, Mr. Joseph became a leading advocate for preserving the Site’s legacy. Recognizing the absence of a dedicated space to tell its story, he played an instrumental role in establishing the SRS Heritage Foundation in 2005 and advancing the vision for what would become the Savannah River Site Museum.  

Mr. Joseph continues to support the Museum’s mission of education and outreach, ensuring that the scientific achievements, national contributions, and community stories of the Savannah River Site are preserved for future generations. 

Kelly Galvarino

Kelly Galvarino serves as the Education Specialist at the SRS Museum, bringing over 20 years of teaching experience. She developed a deep appreciation for the natural world through early adventures exploring caves, paddling whitewater, and rappelling down cliff faces. Kelly loves sharing her enthusiasm for science with families and children of all ages, and she also teaches STEM lessons at the Ruth Patrick Center for Science Education.
